Aspen oversized hoodie dress - sewing tutorial

FABRIC RECOMMENDATIONS

For sewing this dress we recommend to use a warm Jersey knit (sweatshirt fleece). Use ribbing for cuffs.

If you plan to use two colors of the fabric for sewing a dress, then you will need to buy fabric like 2 length of the product.

Also, for sewing a dress, you will need: Threads; Interfacing tape – 0,5 м (19.7″); Jersey needle; cord in the hood – 1 m (39.4″), grommets – 2 pcs.

SEWING INSTRUCTIONS

Iron the interfacing tape along the pocket entrance.

Pin the pocket piece to the Front matching the notches, Right sides together. Stitch as shown.

Cut to the corner of the frame.

Stitch the allowances to the pocket piece.

Press.

Fix the corners to the side with pins.

Pin another pocket piece to the first pocket piece with the right sides together. Stitch and finish the edge using serger. Press.

Pin the Front and Side details along the side edge with the right sides together. Align the notches. Make sure the pocket frame won’t get under the needle of the serger. Sew in place. Press allowances to the Side.

Stitch bar-tacks on pocket entrance: at the top and the bottom.

Pin together the Front and the Back along the shoulder edge with the right sides. Stitch it. Press the allowances to the Back.

Pin the Back and the Side details together with the right sides. Stitch it and Press allowances to the Side.

Pin the Top Sleeve to the Bottom Sleeve with the right sides together. Stitch.

Fold the Cuff in half with the right side together and stitch. Fold the Cuff up with the wrong sides together.

Insert the Cuff into the Sleeve with the right sides together. Stretch the Cuff a little bit while sewing in. Press allowances to the Sleeve.

Insert the Sleeve into the armhole with the right sides together, matching the seams. Sew in place.

Press allowances to the sleeve.

Pin the Hood details together with the right sides. Stitch.

Serge the raw edge of the Hood.

Press the served edge to the wrong side, making the casing.

Iron the interfacing to the wrong side of the hood under the grommets. Place the grommets.

Insert the cord, fold the casing and pin the cord closer to the fold.

Topstitch the casing, fixing the served edge.

Pin the Hood into the neckline with the right sides together. Match the notches. Sew in place. Press.

Serge the raw edge of the dress hem. Fold the hem and pin it. Sew in place with sewing machine using Double needle. Press.
